When we play God with our lives, we cannot blame God for the outcome. We do this in so many ways. We decide what we need to do to get what we want, instead of trusting and resting in God to fulfill His plan & promises for our lives. When we make other things our source, we have looked to other gods instead of our creator.
“You shall have no other gods before me (Exodus 20:3).
This is the way so many ppl in the Bible ran their lives too, and it’s the way many of us live our lives today. Sarai & Abraham, Rebecca w/ her son Jacob, & countless others. After they decided to play God with their own lives, children, & marriages. They end up hating and despising what they’ve created, desiring to wash their hands with it all. They turn their backs on people they claimed to love, but in reality only used until they no longer benefited them. Then they sometimes end up blaming and questioning God for why He set back and let it all happen, when in reality they had never welcomed His will or sought Him on any of it. They just decided, and then stamped it with Gods approval.
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had not borne him a child, but she had an Egyptian slave woman whose name was Hagar. So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Please have relations with my slave woman; perhaps I will obtain children through her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai. And so after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, Abram’s wife Sarai took Hagar the Egyptian, her slave woman, and gave her to her husband Abram as his wife. Then he had relations with Hagar, and she conceived; and when Hagar became aware that she had conceived, her mistress was insignificant in her sight. So Sarai said to Abram, “May the wrong done to me be upon you! I put my slave woman into your arms, but when she saw that she had conceived, I was insignificant in her sight. May the Lord judge between you and me.” But Abram said to Sarai, “Look, your slave woman is in your power; do to her what is good in your sight.” So Sarai treated her harshly, and she fled from her presence (Genesis 16:1-6 NASB).”
The child grew and was weaned, and on the day Isaac was weaned Abraham held a great feast. But Sarai saw that the son whom Hagar the Egyptian had borne to Abraham was mocking, and she said to Abraham, “Get rid of that slave woman and her son, for that woman’s son will never share in the inheritance with my son Isaac (Genesis 21:8-10 NIV).”
Many of us in our walk do the same thing and it will end in destruction. We must not be deceived in thinking we can do and live however we want and it not come with dire consequences. His word will not return void, we will reap what we have sown. If we sow to please our flesh; our desires, wants, & trying to make things happen in our own might and power. Instead of sowing by being lead by the Holy Spirt, we will reap the destruction of what we have created.
Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life (Galatians 6:7-8 NIV).
But, the good news is when we get to the end of where we lead ourselves. When we hit that dead-end road, we will look up. It is an absolute certainty.
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth (Psalms 46:10).”
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth (Psalms 121:1-2 NIV).
Prayer
Father, forgive us for taking the matter of our life into our own hands. It’s not that we can’t think for ourselves, we can. But, we can do that truthfully or be deceived by our own wants and desires. You have a define plan for our life and if we truly want to live the life we were created for, we must surrender to your will for our life and welcome it. Thank you father for truth! Thank you that we no longer have to perish from lack of knowledge, but we can know what your will is. You are so good!
